WCAG 2.2

We work in line with WCAG 2.2 Level AA to create an inclusive and accessible web experience for all users. Here, we describe the key principles behind digital accessibility, the applicable technical requirements, and how Selma combines AI and human expertise to streamline long-term WCAG compliance.

Accessibility according to WCAG 2.2

To ensure our website is accessible to everyone, including people with disabilities, we work in accordance with the guidelines in WCAG 2.2 Level AA.

This means, among other things, that:

    • All images have alternative text for screen readers

    • Video and audio have subtitles or transcriptions

    • The text has sufficient contrast against the background

    • The content can be enlarged up to 200 %

    • Navigation works with the keyboard

    • Focus indicators are clear and visible during keyboard navigation

    • Links are clear and descriptive

    • Forms are correctly labeled and provide clear feedback upon error

    • The language of the website is correctly specified

    • Content works on all devices and screen sizes

    • Buttons and interactive elements have sufficiently large click areas for touch and motor accessibility

    • Functions that use drag or swipe gestures can also be used with simpler interactions

    • No content flashes in a way that could cause problems

The goal is for all users to be able to perceive, navigate, and understand the content, regardless of ability or assistive technology.

The four principles of WCAG

For a website to comply with WCAG, it needs to meet criteria within four core principles:

    • Perceivable

    • Operational

    • Understandable

    • Robust

These principles are often abbreviated as POUR.

1. Perceivable: The information must be perceivable

    • Alt text for images

    • Alternative text for audio and video

    • Semantic HTML structure

    • Color must not be the sole carrier of information

    • At least 4.5:1 contrast for normal text

    • Ability to enlarge text up to 200 %

    • Responsive design for mobile and smaller screens

    • Properly labeled form fields

2. Operable: The interface must be usable

    • All functionality must work with a keyboard

    • No keyboard traps must occur

    • No content may flash more than three times per second

    • Users must be able to pause moving content

    • Clear focus indicators must be visible during keyboard navigation

    • Links must be descriptive

    • There should be several ways to find content

    • Complex gestures should be able to be replaced by simpler interactions

    • Interactive elements must have sufficiently large clickable areas

3. Understandable: Content must be easy to understand

    • The language of the website must be correctly specified

    • Navigation must be consistent

    • Error messages must be clear

    • Forms must have instructions and labels

    • Users shall receive help to correct errors

    • Important documents must be available for review before being sent

    • Users should not have to enter the same information multiple times in forms

    • Authentication flows should minimize cognitive load and support assistive technologies

4. Robust: The content must work across different technologies

    • The HTML code must be correct and validated

    • Element must have name, role and value

    • Status messages must be perceivable by assistive technologies

Conformance levels

    • Level A: Basic requirements

    • Level AA: Most common regarding legal requirements concerning the EU accessibility directive

    • AAA Level: The highest level of availability
